C4 - Intensive programmes for higher education learners
Student Workshop-The small scale, in combination with the Universal Design Practices Conference I_Universal Design and Ergonomics, February 2018
Partner institutions will be involved tutoring a workshop on CAD based universal design. Students from the partner universities and other international students will take part.
The students' activity in the workshop will be based on a previous work done locally by the partner HEIs analyzing the identified schools according to universal design principles.
Output is a comprehensive documentation on the workshops results comprehending both the design of the transformation projects and the process and method applied.
As foreseen by the project program, POLIMI team has organized the first workshop based on analysis of identified schools, on the audit of inclusion levels and on Universal Design principles adoption. This activity was organized as a five-day workshop with alternated lectures and practical exercises. The students, grouped in 5 in teams, from 5 different countries, were guided on a path that simulated various types of physical disabilities. Hence, they have experienced daily problems which a disabled person meets in school environment. The students were also involved in a survey activity applied in selected high schools. The direct experience, the survey output and the meeting with high school students and teachers, and theoretical lessons were held by the researchers of the different countries. These formed the basis for the realization of five projects. As a result, five inclusive educational environments have been designed and developed, to meet the needs of disabled and able-bodied people.
Output is a comprehensive documentation on the workshop results comprehending both the design of the transformation projects and the process and method applied. The outcomes of the C4 workshop were reported and shared with the project partners by POLIMI. All Partner universities implemented the same tasks and the survey in their pilot schools to collect data. Later, the outcomes of the surveys are planned to be used for determining the universal design criteria for the game software.
The workshop disseminated the methodology of case study analysis in PUDCAD educational program. Especially the interdisciplinary input by each individual partner was highlighted in the studied methodology. (C4 Teaching and Training Activity)
Although number of participants (students) was planned to be 35, it was limited to 30 since HFT (previous partner) has not participated to the workshop with their students.
